Most AI is built on creative work — books, lyrics, criticism, art — scraped and trained on without a penny going back to the people who made it. Umfug started from a simple discomfort with that: if an AI is useful because of what artists made, the artists should see something for it.
So we built a chat app that keeps the receipts. Every time Umfug leans on a real writer, musician, or artist in a reply, it records it. At the end of each month, 15% of our profit is split across everyone who was named — weighted so emerging artists get a heavier share. Another 5% goes to clean water. The maths is fixed, automated, and published openly.
This isn't a donation drive. Umfug is a paid product that happens to share its upside by design. No ads, no selling your conversations. The money comes from subscriptions, and a fixed slice of profit flows straight to creatives and to clean water. The more it's used, the more that adds up.
[TODO: Hugo — add your note here, in your own voice. Why you built it, who you are. A couple of honest sentences do more than a polished bio.]
Umfug is independent and small. If you'd like to talk, we're at hello@umfug.ai.
